Conventional Armature DC Servo Motor
FBM242 Foxboro FOXBORO Controller, This type of servo motor has a structure essentially identical to that of a power DC motor. That is, it features an electromagnetic or permanent magnet stator, and a rotor composed of a slotted iron core with an armature winding embedded in the slots. However, relatively speaking, the armature has a larger length-to-diameter ratio, meaning it is a slender and long rotor. Medium to large capacity DC servo motors generally adopt this structure, with product capacities ranging from a few watts to several hundred watts or even several thousand watts. Due to this rotor structure, it possesses strong load capacity and high stall torque, making it particularly suitable for servo systems with heavy loads. However, due to the complex rotor structure and large size, the motor has a large mechanical inertia (time constant), relatively poor stability at low speeds, and a significant control dead zone.
Disk Armature DC Servo Motor
This motor has a permanent magnet stator. Its rotor features a disk structure (i.e., a length-to-diameter ratio less than 1), and the armature can be either wire-wound (wound disk type) or printed circuit (printed disk type). This motor is simple in structure, compact in size, and has a lightweight rotor, resulting in low mechanical inertia (typically, the mechanical time constant is less than 30 ms for standard models), but it has low stall torque. Wound disk motors can achieve capacities of several thousand watts, while printed disk types have smaller capacities.
Hollow Cup Armature DC Servo Motor
The rotor of this motor uses a hollow cup structure as its frame, with the armature winding placed (or printed) on the cup wall. The armature winding can be either wire-wound or printed. The stator is permanent magnet. This servo motor is renowned for its low mechanical inertia, high control sensitivity, and almost no control dead zone. It can be made very small and lightweight. However, it has low stall torque, and currently, its capacity cannot be made very large, making it a type of micro servo motor.
Slotless Armature DC Servo Motor
The slotless armature DC servo motor differs from the conventional armature DC servo motor in that its rotor iron core has no slots, and the armature winding is fixed to the armature surface with adhesive. This servo motor has strong load capacity, high stall torque, can be made with larger capacities, and offers good low-speed stability.
