Tromethamine, chemically known as aminomethylpropanol, is an organic compound appearing as white crystals or powder, with the molecular formula C4H11NO3. It has a melting point of 171-172°C and a boiling point of 219-220°C/1.3kPa. Tromethamine is soluble in water and ethanol, slightly soluble in ethyl acetate and benzene, corrosive to copper and aluminum, and is irritating.

In biochemical experiments, tromethamine is commonly used as a buffer to maintain the acid-base balance of experimental systems. In medical applications, it can be used to treat metabolic acidosis and respiratory acidosis, with alkalinizing urine and osmotic diuretic effects.
