Testing Method of the American Aqualab TDL Water Activity Meter:

Testing Method

Take approximately 7 mL of the sample, place the sample cup into the sample chamber, close the instrument lid, and seal it to wait for vapor equilibrium. At equilibrium, the relative humidity of the air in the sample chamber equals the water activity of the sample. The tunable laser sensor TDL uses a specific wavelength of laser to measure the relative humidity of the air above the sample. Water vapor has strong absorption in the near-infrared region, allowing the sensor to measure the water vapor above the sample and convert it into a water activity value.

Unaffected by Volatile Substances

The laser beam, with a bandwidth of less than 1 nm, specifically responds to common isotopes of water. Other vapor molecules, even other isotopes of water, do not affect the results.

Suitable for All Samples

The AquaLab TDL tunable laser sensor overcomes the limitations of other testing technologies and can measure all samples, including high-concentration ethanol and even gasoline.

Simple Operation, Fast and Accurate

Water activity measurements for most samples can be completed within 5 minutes, with an accuracy of ±0.005 aw. The AquaLab TDL water activity meter is the fastest water activity meter on the market.

Usable Almost Anywhere

Water activity is temperature-dependent. The testing temperature can be set anywhere between 15-50 °C. Internal temperature control ensures the sample temperature remains constant, and the test is unaffected by ambient temperature.

Easy to Clean and Maintain

The Aqualab TDL water activity meter features a fully enclosed sample chamber with no moving parts. Simply open the sample chamber to directly clean the chamber and sensor.

Data Security

The Aqualab TDL water activity meter can store up to 8,000 sets of data on the device. This includes water activity readings, measurement time, date, and operator information. Data can be transferred to a computer via RS-232 serial data interface or USB interface for analysis and archiving, or printed directly. Management functions allow setting data access permissions, with support for up to 25 users and passwords.
