Mitsui Chemicals Japan TPX Transparent Grade UV Resistant Heat Stabilized. PMP is odorless and non-toxic, appearing as colorless transparent granular solid with a density of only 0.833, making it the thermoplastic resin with the lowest density among existing resins. It has a melting point of 240°C and a visible light transmittance of up to 90%.

Physical and Chemical Properties;

TPX exhibits heat resistance, electrical insulation, and chemical resistance. Its ultraviolet light transmittance is superior to glass and other transparent resins. With a low refractive index of only 1.463nD20, second only to fluororesins, TPX can be used as a low refractive index material. Due to its molecular structure, TPX has better gas permeability compared to other resins. It shows excellent resistance to chemicals, particularly acids, alkalis, and alcohols. TPX is a polyolefin with extremely low water absorption, so it does not undergo dimensional changes due to water absorption. It does not hydrolyze even in boiling water, making it suitable for medical experimental utensils and animal breeding cages that require steam sterilization.

TPX has a stable C-C molecular structure, demonstrating superior chemical resistance compared to polycarbonate and acrylic resins.

The surface tension of TPX is very low, so special treatment is required for processes such as bonding and printing. Additionally, due to its low mechanical strength, TPX is not suitable for machining.

TPX can be colored by dry blending. When selecting colorants, it is recommended to choose pigments with heat resistance exceeding the molding temperature.
