The Wassily Lounge Chair was designed in 1925 by Marcel Breuer as the first tubular steel chair he created, and it is also the world's first tubular steel chair. Its inspiration came from an Adler bicycle, pioneering the design record for tubular steel chairs worldwide. In honor of the abstract art master Wassily Kandinsky, Breuer named this chair the "Wassily" chair. It features a strong machine aesthetic, with a main structure formed by welding, making the design resemble a machine. Particularly, the leather straps used as armrests closely resemble conveyor belts on machinery, and the backrest, suspended on a horizontal axis, adds a sense of mechanical motion.
