Low-Frequency Modulated Intermediate Frequency

The intermediate frequency current in this series of electrotherapy machines is a square wave current with a frequency of 2000-8000 Hz. This type of current offers many advantages, such as reduced tissue resistance, strong penetration, and deep action. However, a constant-amplitude intermediate frequency current, due to its lack of amplitude variation, is easily adapted to by the human body and cannot excite muscles, as its frequency exceeds the therapeutic range (0-150 Hz). To retain the benefits of intermediate frequency while incorporating low-frequency characteristics, a low-frequency (1-150 Hz) modulated intermediate frequency current is used. This causes the amplitude of the intermediate frequency current to vary with the low-frequency current, combining the features of both intermediate and low frequencies.
