Properties: Colorless or white shiny flaky crystals or white crystalline powder. Slightly distinctive odor. Slightly bitter taste. Melting point 280-281°C (decomposition). Unstable in strong acids, which can lead to demethylation. Soluble in water (5.6g/100ml, 30°C), warm dilute ethanol, alkaline solutions, and dilute inorganic acids. Sparingly soluble in ethanol, almost insoluble in ether.
