EU RoHS

1. Introduction to RoHS

RoHS is a mandatory standard established by EU legislation. Its full name is the "Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment." This standard officially came into effect on July 1, 2006, primarily regulating the materials and工藝 standards of electrical and electronic products to make them more beneficial to human health and environmental protection.

The scope of products covered by the RoHS directive is quite extensive, encompassing almost all electronic, electrical, medical, communication, toy, security information, and other products. It includes not only finished products but also components, raw materials, and packaging used in their production, affecting the entire supply chain.

2. Development History of the RoHS Directive

RoHS Directive (2002/95/EC): Enacted on February 13, 2003, and implemented on July 1, 2006. It restricts the content of lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, PBB, and PBDE in homogeneous materials of eight categories of electrical and electronic equipment placed on the EU market to no more than 0.1%, and cadmium to no more than 0.01%, with exemptions.

RoHS 2.0 Directive (2011/65/EU): Replaced 2002/95/EC and came into effect on July 21, 2011. The scope of controlled products expanded from 8 categories to the following 11 categories. This marked the official entry of the EU RoHS directive into the 2.0 era (commonly known as RoHS 2.0).

RoHS 2.0 Revised Directive (2015/863/EU): Enacted on June 4, 2015, and implemented on July 22, 2019. It added controlled substances DIBP, BBP, DBP, and DEHP (collectively referred to as phthalates 4P), all with a control limit of 0.1%. Note: Homogeneous material refers to a material that cannot be mechanically separated into different substances, such as單一的 plastic, metal, glass, etc.

EU RoHS 2.0 applies to various types of electrical and electronic products, covering those that require electric current and electromagnetic fields to achieve at least one intended function, as well as their raw materials. Mainly includes:

(1) Large household appliances;

(2) Small household appliances;

(3) IT and telecommunications equipment;

(4) Consumer equipment;

(5) Lighting equipment;

(6) Electrical and electronic tools (excluding large-scale stationary industrial tools);

(7) Toys, leisure, and sports equipment;

(8) Medical devices;

(9) Monitoring and control instruments;

(10) Automatic dispensers;

(11) Other electrical and electronic equipment.

UK and EU member states: France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Ireland, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Cyprus, Hungary, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania.

In addition to the EU, other countries and regions such as China, California (USA), Singapore, India, UAE, Turkey, etc., have also introduced RoHS control requirements, making RoHS the most basic entry threshold for electrical and electronic products entering the global market.

7. Certification Process

(1) Fill out the RoHS test application form, available for download from the RoHS certification center website.

(2) Quotation and settlement. After submitting the application, the client sends samples (or by courier) to the testing agency. The agency reasonably disassembles the samples as required and反饋 the number of splits and testing costs to the client. Upon client agreement, the testing fee is transferred to the designated account.

(3) Upon receipt of payment, testing is arranged and completed.

(4) Report issuance. Delivery methods include courier, fax, email, or pickup by the submitter.
