1. Introduction to Indoor Air Testing

Indoor air refers to the air inside buildings enclosed by six surfaces.

Indoor air testing involves the collection and analysis of indoor air to determine the types and concentrations of pollutants, thereby identifying harmful gases and assessing air quality.

After new renovations or the addition of new furniture in homes, office buildings, and other spaces, some decorative materials, paints, adhesives, etc., can release harmful and irritating gases, such as formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia, TVOC (volatile organic compounds), and the radioactive gas radon. These substances pose significant health risks to people who live or work indoors for extended periods. They can gradually harm the body, leading to diseases such as lung cancer, leukemia, and other cancers. Scientific testing can determine whether living and office spaces comply with relevant standards, thereby helping to avoid environmental pollution risks.

According to the GB50325 "Standard for Indoor Environmental Pollution Control of Civil Building Engineering" issued by the Ministry of Construction, since July 1, 2002, all newly built, renovated, or expanded civil building projects must undergo indoor environmental pollution concentration testing upon completion. The test results must comply with national mandatory requirements. Projects that fail the testing cannot be considered completed, and management authorities are not permitted to approve their filing.
