1. Standard Requirements

CJ/T 244-2016 "Swimming Pool Water Quality Standards", the main technical content is introduced as follows:

(1) The raw water and supplementary water quality of swimming pools must comply with the requirements of GB5749.

(2) The sensory properties of the pool water should be good.

(3) The pool water should not contain pathogenic microorganisms.

(4) The chemical substances contained in the pool water should not harm human health.

(5) The routine testing items and limit values for swimming pool water quality should comply with the regulations.

(6) When routine testing shows microbial exceedance or contamination incidents occur, the pool water should also be tested for additional water quality items and unconventional microbial items as required by local health departments.

2. Testing Items

(1) Sensory indicator turbidity: A very important indicator that directly reflects the level of pollutants in the water. Reducing turbidity not only increases water transparency but also indicates the cleanliness of the water.

(2) Physicochemical indicators

Temperature: Water temperature may vary for different types of swimming pools.

pH: For swimming pools using drinking water as source water, the appropriate pH range is uniform.

Oxygen consumption: This indicator reflects the freshness of the water, and most countries and regions have regulations on it.

Residual disinfectant concentration: Depending on the type of disinfectant used, the indicator items may vary accordingly.

Disinfection by-product concentration: Depending on the type of disinfectant used, the indicator items may vary accordingly.

Alkalinity: The total concentration of alkaline salts dissolved in water, an important indicative parameter.

Total hardness: The sum of Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions in water, which has a significant impact on water balance and pH.

Total dissolved solids: The total amount of dissolved substances in water, monitored to control the renewal of pool water.

Oxidation-reduction potential: Reflects the level of residual disinfectant in water and is influenced by pH.

Other items: Such as trihalomethanes, which are regulated by FINA, Germany, the UK, and Japan, but less commonly in other countries.

(3) Microbiological indicators

Total bacterial count: Generally calculated as the number of colonies per mL of water sample.

Total coliform bacteria: Generally calculated as the most probable number per 100 mL of water sample, an important indicator reflecting pathogenic bacteria.
