Industrial waste gas refers to the general term for various pollutant-containing gases emitted into the air during fuel combustion and production processes within enterprise premises. These waste gases include carbon dioxide, carbon disulfide, hydrogen sulfide, fluorides, nitrogen oxides, chlorine, hydrogen chloride, carbon monoxide, sulfuric acid mist, soot, and industrial dust. 2. Causes of Pollution

Industrial waste gas includes organic and inorganic waste gases. Organic waste gases primarily consist of various hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, acids, ketones, and amines. Inorganic waste gases mainly include sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, carbon oxides, halogens, and their compounds.

3. Hazards

(1) Hazards to Human Health: Humans need to breathe air to sustain life. An adult breathes approximately 20,000 times a day, inhaling 15 to 20 cubic meters of air. Therefore, polluted air directly impacts human health. The hazards of air pollutants to the human body are multifaceted, primarily manifesting as respiratory diseases, physiological dysfunction, and irritation of mucous tissues such as the eyes and nose.

(2) Hazards to Plants: Air pollutants, especially sulfur dioxide and fluorides, pose severe threats to plants. When pollutant concentrations are high, they cause acute damage to plants, resulting in leaf surface lesions or direct wilting and shedding. At lower concentrations, they cause chronic damage, leading to leaf chlorosis or seemingly asymptomatic effects that nonetheless impair physiological functions, reducing plant yield and quality.
