Panax Notoginseng Extract This standard is established based on the "Yunnan Provincial Drug Standard" (1996 edition) Yunnan Q/WS765～1985. This product is the total saponins extracted from the rhizome of Panax notoginseng (Burk) F.H.Chen of the Araliaceae family through a specific process. 【Characteristics】 This product is a yellow-brown powder; bitter in taste, slightly sweet; hygroscopic. 【Identification】 (1) Dissolve a small amount of the product in 2ml of water, place in a stoppered test tube, shake vigorously for one minute to produce a large amount of foam, and let stand for 10 minutes without significant disappearance. (2) Take a small amount of the product, dissolve in 1ml of acetic anhydride, add 1-2 drops of concentrated sulfuric acid along the test tube wall, showing a purplish-red color, which turns purple after shaking and standing. (3) Take 10mg of the reference substance of Panax notoginseng total saponins dried under vacuum at 60°C for 2 hours, place in a 1ml volumetric flask, dissolve with methanol and dilute to the mark. Separately, take 10mg of this product, place in a 1ml volumetric flask, dissolve with methanol and dilute to the mark. Using thin-layer chromatography, precisely aspirate 10μl each of the above reference solution and sample solution, spot on a silica gel G thin-layer plate, using the lower layer of chloroform—methanol—water (55:35:10) mixture after shaking and standing for stratification as the developing agent. After development and drying, spray with 50% sulfuric acid-ethanol solution, and develop color at 105°C for 10 minutes. In the chromatogram of the test sample, spots of the same color appear at positions corresponding to the reference substance chromatogram.

【Loss on Drying】 Precisely weigh about 0.5g of this product, dry at 80°C to constant weight; the loss in weight should not exceed 6.0%.

【Assay】 Precisely weigh 23mg of this product, place in a 25ml volumetric flask, dissolve with methanol and dilute to the mark, mix well. Precisely measure 2ml, place in a 25ml volumetric flask, dilute with methanol to the mark to prepare a methanol solution containing about 0.0736mg of Panax notoginseng total saponins per 1ml. Precisely measure 2ml of the prepared solution of this product into a test tube, simultaneously prepare a blank tube, evaporate to dryness in a water bath, cool to room temperature, add 0.2ml of 5% vanillin glacial acetic acid solution, add 0.8ml, develop color in a 70°C water bath for 15 minutes, cool, add 5ml of glacial acetic acid, mix well, measure the absorbance at 560nm wavelength. Simultaneously, measure the absorbance of the reference substance of Panax notoginseng total saponins dried under vacuum at 60°C for 2 hours using the same procedure as the sample, and calculate as follows. Percentage content of total saponins = (Sample absorbance × Reference weight × 100%) / (Reference absorbance × Sample weight) Calculated on the dried basis, the content of Panax notoginseng total saponins should not be less than 40%.
