【Description】This product is a white needle-like, rod-like, or flaky crystalline powder; odorless; slightly bitter in taste.

It is soluble in hot water, slightly soluble in water and ethanol.

Melting Point The melting point of this product (Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2000 Edition Part II Appendix VIC) is 195–199°C.

Loss on Drying When dried to constant weight at 105°C, the loss in weight is not more than 0.5% (Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2000 Edition Part II Appendix VIII L).

Residue on Ignition Not more than 0.2% (Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2000 Edition Part II Appendix VIII N).

【Assay】Determine by high-performance liquid chromatography (Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2000 Edition Part II Appendix VD).

Chromatographic Conditions and System Suitability; Use octadecylsilane-bonded silica gel as the filler, with a mobile phase of glacial acetic acid: water: methanol (10:89:1); detection wavelength is 270 nm. The number of theoretical plates calculated for the helicid peak should not be less than 8000.

Assay Method Weigh accurately about 20 mg of the product, place in a 100 ml volumetric flask, dissolve and dilute to volume with the mobile phase, mix well. Accurately measure an appropriate amount of helicid reference standard and determine in the same manner. Calculate using the peak area by the external standard method.
