PES Characteristics: Chemical Resistance: PES is resistant to oils such as gasoline, engine oil, lubricants, and cleaning agents like Freon. It has the best solvent crack resistance among amorphous resins. However, its resistance to polar solvents like acetone and chloroform is poor, so caution should be exercised during use.
1. Hydrolysis Resistance: It can withstand hot water or steam at 150–160°C and is resistant to acid and alkali erosion even at high temperatures.
2. Temperature Dependence of Modulus: Its modulus remains almost unchanged from -100°C to 200°C, performing better than any other thermoplastic resin above 100°C.
3. Creep Resistance: Within the temperature range of up to 180°C, it exhibits the best creep resistance among thermoplastic resins. Glass fiber-reinforced PES resin even surpasses some thermosetting resins.
4. Dimensional Stability: It features a low linear expansion coefficient with minimal temperature dependence. Notably, 30% glass fiber-reinforced PES resin has a linear expansion coefficient of only 2.3×10??/°C, maintaining a value similar to aluminum up to 200°C.
5. Impact Resistance: It possesses impact resistance comparable to polycarbonate. Unreinforced resin can be riveted, but it is sensitive to sharp notches in PES products, so design considerations are necessary.
6. Non-Toxicity: It meets hygiene standards, being approved by the U.S. FDA and complying with Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Announcements No. 434 and No. 178.
7. Flame Retardancy: It is self-extinguishing and exhibits excellent flame retardancy without any additives, achieving a UL94 V-0 rating (0.46mm).
