Due to their high electrochemical performance, zinc alloy sacrificial anodes exhibit excellent performance in seawater and other media containing chloride ions, with strong self-regulating capabilities. They are commonly used in soil environments with resistivity less than 20 ohm-meters or in seawater environments. Additionally, the use of zinc alloy sacrificial anodes is affected by ambient temperature, generally applied in environments below 49°C, as temperatures above 54°C accelerate the positive shift in zinc anode potential. However, even in environments with high concentrations of chloride or sulfate ions, the potential of zinc remains unchanged, and even if passivation occurs, it can be restored with the addition of backfill. Zinc anodes work best in environments with properly formulated backfill materials such as gypsum powder, bentonite, and sodium. The use of ribbon zinc alloy sacrificial anodes also requires a potential difference of 0.25V with steel equipment, making them primarily suitable for cathodic protection of ships, mechanical equipment, marine engineering, and buried pipelines in low-resistivity soil in seawater and freshwater media.
