Lonza PETS High-Temperature Lubricant

[Introduction] PETS is a high-temperature lubricant with the structure of pentaerythritol stearate, specifically designed for engineering materials such as PET, PBT, PPO, PPS, and PC.

[Appearance] White; bead-like.

[Recommended Applications] Glycolube P is an effective lubricant used in many polymer composites for extrusion and molding processes. It is recommended as a release agent for polycarbonate, thermoplastic polyesters, and other engineering thermoplastics. The exceptional thermal stability of Glycolube P allows it to be used in systems with high processing temperatures without concerns about degradation.

As an external lubricant in polymer systems such as polycarbonate and rigid PVC, Glycolube P is a highly efficient lubricant that can be applied at lower concentrations than most conventional lubricants. Glycolube P can be used in any application where its significant thermal stability and release properties are required.

[Thermal Stability]

Thermogravimetric analysis results show that at 350°C, PETS still exhibits no significant weight loss; at 375°C, the weight loss is approximately 2.5%; it begins to decompose at 400°C (with a weight loss of about 7%).

[Application Range and Characteristics] PETS offers excellent thermal stability and low volatility at high temperatures; good release and flow properties; it also acts as a nucleating agent for partially crystalline plastics, making it suitable for transparent products. In the rubber and plastics industries, it is used as a plasticizer and lubricant, particularly in applications requiring both thermal stability and release properties. During rubber plastication, it functions as a peptizer and lubricant; it provides excellent nucleation for partially crystalline plastics, making it suitable for transparent products; as an external lubricant for PC, rigid PVC, and other polymer systems, the typical dosage is 0.1–1%. 

Pentaerythritol stearate is used as an internal and external lubricant and release agent for polycarbonate and its alloys, nylon (PA66, PA6), ABS, polyphenylene oxide (PPO), and polyphenylene sulfide (PPS); as a lubricant and dispersant for thermoplastic polyesters (PBT, PET); as a lubricant and dispersant for other thermoplastic engineering plastics such as PA, POM, PP, ABS, PVC, HIPS, and PE; as an antistatic agent, lubricant, dispersant, and antifogging agent for polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE); as an antistatic agent and antifogging agent for polystyrene (PS); as an antistatic agent, lubricant, and antifogging agent for polyvinyl chloride (PVC); as a slip agent and antifogging agent for polyurethane (PU); and as a lubricant for thermosetting plastics.

During extrusion and molding processes, PETS serves as an excellent additive for many polymers. For example, in concentrated filler masterbatches, color masterbatches, and flame-retardant masterbatch formulations, it promotes the uniform dispersion of pigments, fillers, or flame retardants; in glass fiber-reinforced engineering plastics, it enhances the dispersion and bonding of glass fibers in the resin, reduces exposure, and improves product gloss. The outstanding thermal stability of PETS allows it to be used in high-temperature processing of such systems without concerns about degradation during processing.
