Quartz sand is a hard, wear-resistant, and chemically stable silicate mineral. Its main mineral component is SiO2. The color of quartz sand is milky white or colorless and translucent, appearing as a polyhedral spherical white crystal with a hardness of 7. It is brittle with no cleavage, has a conchoidal fracture, greasy luster, and a density of 2.65. The bulk density is 1.6 for 1-20 mesh and 1.5 for 20-200 mesh. Its chemical, thermal, and mechanical properties exhibit significant anisotropy. It is insoluble in acid, slightly soluble in KOH solution, and has a melting point of 1750°C. Common specifications of quartz sand include: 0.5-1mm, 1-2mm, 2-4mm, 4-8mm, 8-16mm, 16-32mm, 10-20 mesh, 20-40 mesh, 40-80 mesh, 80-120 mesh, 100-200 mesh, 200 mesh, and 325 mesh.

Classification of Quartz Sand:

Quartz has high refractory properties. Industrially, quartz sand is often classified into: ordinary quartz sand, refined quartz sand, high-purity quartz sand, fused quartz sand, and silica powder.

Ordinary quartz sand, with SiO2 ≥ 90–99% and Fe2O3 ≤ 0.06–0.02%, has a refractoriness of 1750°C. It appears as large particles with a yellow skin coating on the surface. The particle size ranges from 5 to 220 mesh and can be produced according to customer requirements. Main applications: metallurgy, silicon carbide, glass and glass products, enamel, cast steel, water filtration, sodium silicate, chemical industry, sandblasting, and other industries.

Refined quartz sand, also known as acid-washed quartz sand, has SiO2 ≥ 99–99.5% and Fe2O3 ≤ 0.005%. It is made from high-quality natural quartz sand through careful selection and fine processing. The particle size ranges include 1–0.5mm, 0.5–0.1mm, 0.1–0.01mm, and 0.01–0.005mm, and it can be processed according to customer requirements. Applications: manufacturing glass, refractory materials, smelting ferrosilicon, metallurgical fluxes, ceramics, abrasive materials, foundry molding sand, etc. In construction, it is used for its strong resistance to acid medium erosion to produce acid-resistant concrete and acid-resistant mortar.

High-purity quartz sand has SiO2 ≥ 99.5–99.9% and Fe2O3 ≤ 0.001%. It is made from high-quality natural quartz stone and mortar.
