Introduction to Copper Alloys:  

Adding certain alloying elements (such as zinc, tin, aluminum, beryllium, manganese, silicon, nickel, phosphorus, etc.) to pure copper forms copper alloys. Copper alloys exhibit good electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and corrosion resistance, along with high strength and wear resistance. Depending on their composition, copper alloys are categorized into brass, bronze, etc.  

Brass is a copper alloy with zinc as the primary alloying element. Based on chemical composition, brass is divided into ordinary brass and special brass.  

Ordinary brass is a binary copper-zinc alloy. Due to its good plasticity, it is suitable for manufacturing sheets, rods, wires, tubes, and deep-drawn parts such as condenser tubes, radiator tubes, and mechanical and electrical components. Brass with average copper contents of 62% and 59% can also be cast, known as cast brass.  

Special brass is formed by adding elements such as aluminum, silicon, manganese, lead, and tin to copper-zinc alloys to achieve higher strength, corrosion resistance, and good casting properties. Examples include lead brass, tin brass, aluminum brass, silicon brass, manganese brass, etc.  

Lead brass offers excellent machinability and wear resistance, widely used in manufacturing clock parts and for casting bearings and bushings. Tin brass has good corrosion resistance and is extensively used in marine components.

Aluminum in aluminum brass enhances the strength and hardness of brass and improves its corrosion resistance in the atmosphere. Aluminum brass is used for manufacturing corrosion-resistant parts.  

Silicon in silicon brass improves the mechanical properties, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance of copper. Silicon brass is mainly used for marine components and chemical machinery parts.  

Nickel silver (white copper) is a copper-based alloy with nickel as the main additive element. It appears silvery-white with a metallic luster, hence the name. Copper and nickel can form an infinite solid solution with each other, resulting in a continuous solid solution, meaning it remains an α-single-phase alloy regardless of the ratio. When nickel is melted into red copper and the content exceeds 16%, the resulting alloy becomes as white as silver. The higher the nickel content, the whiter the color. The nickel content in nickel silver is typically 25%.
