Principle:

When toxic substances are present in water, they react with luminescent bacteria (Vibrio fischeri), thereby enhancing or inhibiting the bacteria's luminescence intensity. The instrument measures the change in bacterial luminescence intensity and expresses it as an inhibition rate (or enhancement rate), enabling rapid assessment of water pollution levels.
