The flow rate of an integrated sewage ejector is determined by the hourly sewage discharge volume. For general household use, a capacity of 5-10 m3/h is sufficient. If there is a higher volume of sewage discharge, a comprehensive sewage ejector or a dual-pump sewage ejector can be considered. The diameter of the drainage pipe for an integrated sewage ejector, for example, should be at least 50mm when connected to a toilet. Of course, a cutting-type sewage ejector can also be used. Generally, small sewage ejectors have a protection rating of IP44. Higher protection ratings indicate better reliability of the ejector, with improved dust and water resistance. Integrated sewage ejectors operate at high speeds and generate significant heat during operation, making the cooling system very important.

Initially, basement drainage in China involved designing a cement-brick sump pit in the basement, where sewage from bathrooms, showers, and sinks was discharged into the pit through pipes on the same level. Two submersible pumps were installed in the pit, which is commonly referred to as the "one pit, two pumps" underground sewage discharge method. The dual pumps alternated to ensure discharge reliability. However, a major drawback of this method was the need for regular cleaning and the issue of foul odors. Basements typically lack windows, making it impossible to ventilate odors, which rendered the space unusable. Regular cleaning was also a significant disadvantage of this drainage method. Later, with the introduction of sewage ejectors from abroad, this "one pit, two pumps" method was gradually replaced by sewage ejectors.

Integrated sewage ejectors have strong sewage treatment capabilities and are equipped with high-hardness alloy cutting heads that can easily crush items such as feces (avoid disposing of hard objects, construction waste, scraps, large amounts of hair, or feminine hygiene products into the toilet to prevent operational issues). As a result, the sewage pump does not clog, extending the lifespan of various sewage pumps. This eliminates the need to consider the particle size that the sewage pump can handle. Integrated sewage ejectors do not pollute the environment; sewage is stored and discharged in a sealed state with activated carbon ventilation holes, preventing leaks and odors. A one-way valve is installed on the domestic sewage pipeline entering the treatment equipment to completely prevent the backflow of odors.
