A flameless explosion venting device is a safety apparatus designed to protect equipment and personnel. It automatically shuts down equipment or pipelines in the event of an explosion or fire, preventing the spread of flames or the escalation of an explosion. Its operating principle involves detecting changes in gas pressure and temperature inside pipelines or equipment to determine whether there is a risk of explosion or fire. If a hazard is confirmed, the device immediately shuts down the equipment or pipeline while releasing pressure to safeguard both equipment and personnel.

Working Principle of Flameless Explosion Venting Devices for Bag Dust Collectors in Steel Plants:

The flameless venting device consists of two parts: an explosion vent panel and a flame quenching module. The explosion vent panel responds rapidly to the rising pressure of a deflagration, opening immediately to relieve pressure. When the expanding fireball passes through the open vent panel, it is intercepted by the flame quenching module. The precision stainless steel mesh, supported by a frame, acts as a three-dimensional flame trap, extinguishing the flame and preventing its propagation, thereby avoiding secondary or multiple explosions. The flame quenching module eliminates deflagration flames, reduces the temperature of hot gases, and captures both burning and unburned dust passing through the open vent panel.

At the same time, pressure waves or noise generated by production equipment are significantly reduced. As flames pass through the mesh flame arrestor element, heat exchange occurs between the element and the flame, rapidly cooling the high-temperature flame, venting pressure and smoke, while also reducing pressure waves or noise generated by the production equipment.

With increasingly stringent environmental inspections, safety is receiving more attention. In the past, explosion vent panels were commonly installed on dust collectors to vent overpressure caused by dust explosions. However, such installations on indoor equipment are not permitted by safety regulations because they endanger surrounding personnel and equipment. The pressure waves and flames from an explosion could trigger secondary or multiple explosions, creating risks. Therefore, relying solely on explosion vent panels for dust collectors is not reliable. We recommend using flameless venting + isolation technology (a more economical solution) or suppression + isolation technology to ensure production safety.

There are three main methods for dust explosion protection: venting, isolation, and suppression.

Venting: Releases explosion pressure in advance through a pressure relief device to protect equipment from damage.

Isolation: Uses an isolation valve to block the explosion and prevent flame propagation.
