For exporting electronic and electrical products to Canada, wired products (without wireless functions) require IC certification (ICES-003); products with wireless functions require IC ID certification.
The testing costs vary depending on the wireless functions of the product.
Note: As of April 1, 2025, the official fee for IC ID has increased to $804.14 (Canadian official charge).
I. Required documents for IC ID certification:
1: Product user manual (must include warning statements)
2: Product specification sheet (must include detailed functional parameters, e.g., number of frequency bands for 4G)
2: Antenna specification sheet (can be the antenna datasheet or antenna test report, but must include gain test data and related charts)
3: Circuit schematic diagram (with parameters of each component)
4: PCB layout (routing diagram/silk screen diagram)
5: Nameplate (label)
6: Block diagram
7: Bill of Materials (BOM)
8: IC ID number
9: Fixed-frequency software and fixed-frequency operation instructions
10: Canadian representative (Canadian agent)
11: Fixed-frequency prototype and standard prototype
All the above documents must be provided in English.
II. IC ID number
The IC ID number consists of two parts: CN (Company Number) and UPW (Unique Product Number, usually represented by the model), with character limitations.
The format of the IC ID number is, for example: IC: XXXX-XXXX.
If applying for IC ID certification for the first time, the applicant, manufacturer, and Canadian agent must all register on the IC official website; this registration is free.
III. Canadian agent
For IC ID certification, it is required that the product sold in Canada has a local Canadian representative. This agent must be a Canadian company, and any issues with the product can be addressed through this agent.
This Canadian agent must be genuine and valid, and an authorization letter signed by the agent must be provided.
IV. Important notes
1: For multi-model applications for IC ID, the control is relatively strict. If applying for a series of models, a model difference declaration must be provided, and samples of the series models must be submitted for evaluation and photography.
2: The IC ID certificate will include a product description. The product description cannot be the same as the product name. It is recommended to briefly describe it as the product name + function.
