Measurement Principle

Turbidity indicates the degree to which suspended matter in water obstructs the passage of light. The presence of soil, dust, fine organic matter, microorganisms, and colloidal substances can cause turbidity in water. The light waves emitted by the sensor are absorbed, reflected, and scattered by the measured substance during transmission. Some of the transmitted light reaches the detector at a 180° angle, while some scattered light is directed to the detector at a 90° angle. The intensity of light received by the detectors at 180° and 90° angles is related to the turbidity of the measured wastewater. Therefore, by measuring the intensity of transmitted and scattered light, the turbidity of the wastewater can be calculated.
