Function and Application Areas
TKS-B, FRD, FLD, FRD2, and FLD2 are protectors used for electronic measurement and control lines, preventing damage to associated equipment from surge overvoltages caused by lightning or traveling waves on data lines.
TKS-B is a protector applied to all data lines with voltages not exceeding 110V and frequencies not exceeding 2MHz, installed in LPZ 0→2.
The FRD and FLD series protectors are used in ungrounded (asymmetric, floating) two-wire systems. FRD can be installed in circuits where resistance increase is permissible; if resistance increase is not allowed, FLD is used.
The FRD2 and FLD2 series protectors are specifically designed for earth-referenced single-wire systems (symmetric, voltage-dependent). Here, there is also a choice between series resistance and series inductance: FRD2 is selected if resistance increase is permissible, while FLD2 is chosen for voltage-controlled devices. Due to their two-stage protection circuit design, they are also suitable for installation in LPZ1→LPZ3.
The two-stage circuit of FRD and FLD consists of gas discharge tubes, varistors, and clamping diodes, featuring high flow capacity, extremely short clamping time, and low protection level.
The TKS-B protector has only a single-stage protection circuit but offers exceptionally high flow capacity.
Installation
OBO TKS-B, FRD, and FLD type protectors can be installed in any standard switch box or distribution box, simply mounted on a 35mm DIN rail. Screwless terminals reduce installation costs.
