How to deal with damage during the installation of polycarbonate sheets?
Polycarbonate sheets are made from plastic raw materials. If not handled carefully during construction and installation, the surface of the sheets can be damaged. Discarding damaged polycarbonate sheets would be wasteful and regrettable. So, is there any way to repair them? This is a common concern among consumers. Below, Yongxin will introduce a method.
To repair damaged polycarbonate sheets, a specific repair liquid is used. This liquid is transparent, colorless, and pH-neutral. It is harmless but has a slightly pungent odor. It is highly effective for scratches and damage on polycarbonate sheets. For sheets that need repair, first, remove dust and wipe them clean to expose a fresh surface. Second, apply this liquid to the surface of the sheet using a sponge. Typically, within 1-5 minutes, the sheet will look as good as new. For damaged polycarbonate sheets, the surface will harden after a few minutes, restoring the sheet's original hardness and smoothness.

Characteristics of Polycarbonate Sheets:
(1) Light Transmission: PC sheets can achieve up to 89% light transmission, comparable to glass. UV-coated sheets resist yellowing, fogging, and reduced transparency under sun exposure. After ten years, light transmission loss is only about 10%, whereas PVC loses 15-20%, and fiberglass loses 12-20%.
(2) Impact Resistance: The impact strength is 250-300 times that of ordinary glass, 30 times that of acrylic sheets of the same thickness, and 2-20 times that of tempered glass. They are known as "unbreakable glass" and "sound steel."
(3) UV Protection: One side of the PC sheet is co-extruded with a UV-resistant coating, while the other side has anti-condensation treatment. It combines UV resistance, thermal insulation, and anti-drip functions. It blocks ultraviolet rays, making it suitable for protecting valuable artworks and exhibits from UV damage.
(4) Lightweight: The density is about half that of glass, reducing costs for transportation, handling, installation, and support structures.
(5) Flame Retardant: According to standard GB50222—95, PC sheets are classified as flame-retardant (B1 grade). The self-ignition point of PC sheets is about 580°C, and they self-extinguish after being removed from fire. They do not produce toxic gases when burning and do not contribute to the spread of flames.
(6) Bendability: They can be cold-bent on-site according to design drawings to form arches, semicircular roofs, and windows. The minimum bending radius is about 175 times the sheet thickness. They can also be heat-bent.
(7) Sound Insulation: PC sheets provide significant sound insulation, outperforming glass and acrylic sheets of the same thickness. Under the same conditions, the sound insulation of PC sheets is 5-9 dB higher than that of glass, making them an ideal material for highway sound barriers.
(8) Energy Efficiency: PC sheets keep interiors cool in summer and warm in winter. They have a lower thermal conductivity (K-value) than ordinary glass and other plastics, providing 7-25% better insulation than glass of the same thickness. The insulation efficiency of PC sheets can reach up to 49%, significantly reducing heat loss, making them suitable for buildings with heating systems.
(9) Temperature Adaptability: PC sheets do not become brittle at -40°C and do not deform at 125°C. Their mechanical and physical properties remain stable even in harsh environments.
(10) Weather Resistance: PC sheets maintain stable physical properties within a temperature range of -40°C to 120°C. After 4,000 hours of artificial weathering tests, the yellowing index is only 2, and the light transmission loss is about 0.6%.
(11) Anti-Condensation: At an outdoor temperature of 0°C and an indoor temperature of 23°C with indoor relative humidity below 80%, the inner surface of the material does not condense. Condensation flows along the surface of the sheet without dripping.
