During the hardening and strength development process of DS-U expansive fiber crack-resistant waterproofing agent concrete, the initial reaction between water and cement forms crystals. The volume of these crystalline compounds is smaller than that of the raw materials, leading to shrinkage of the concrete volume. In the later stages, factors such as the evaporation of free moisture in the concrete and temperature changes cause drying shrinkage, which are the root causes of many concrete issues.

Since the monofilament fibers in the expansive fiber are uniformly distributed in large numbers per unit volume within the concrete, microcracks inevitably encounter the obstruction of fibers during their development, consuming most of the energy. The four expansive components—CaO, MgO, Al?O?, and SO?—hydrate at different rates. During the formation of the concrete, they establish varying levels of micro-expansion forces at the early, middle, and late stages, counteracting the shrinkage forces at different periods of concrete formation. As a result, cracks are less likely to propagate further, achieving the crack-resistant effect. In particular, the addition of fibers acts like incorporating micro-reinforcement into the concrete. These fiber reinforcements inhibit the cracking process of the concrete and enhance its fracture toughness, which cannot be achieved solely by reinforcing steel bars.
