Properties:

Glycine, also known as aminoacetic acid, appears as white crystals or crystalline powder. It is odorless with a sweet taste. Melting point is 262°C (decomposition), specific gravity is 1.607. It is easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, and insoluble in ether.

Applications:

1. Industrial Grade Glycine
Used as an intermediate for thiamphenicol; main raw material for the herbicide glyphosate; auxiliary raw material for the highly effective, low-toxicity pesticide permethrin.
2. Feed Grade Glycine
Used as an attractant and nutrient in pet feed.
3. Food Grade Glycine
(1) Utilized as a flavoring agent, sweetener, preservative (or in combination with L-sodium glutamate, DL-alanine, citric acid, etc.). For example, adding it to seasonings, beverages, and pickled vegetables can preserve the original flavor, enhance sweetness, and inhibit the growth of Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli.
(2) Used to stabilize vitamin C in food processing.
4. Pharmaceutical Grade Glycine:
(1) Used in amino acid infusion solutions, as a buffer for chlortetracycline, and as a synthetic raw material for L-dopa, cephalosporins, cosmetics, and amino acids.
(2) Added as an auxiliary therapeutic agent. Used for muscle weakness and pseudohypertrophic muscular dystrophy, and for treating nervous gastric acid and hyperacidity in gastric ulcers.
