After activation by water vapor, it undergoes refining treatment and is crushed into powder. This product appears as black powder, insoluble in general solutions. It is odorless and tasteless, featuring a large surface area, strong adsorption capacity, high purity, fast filtration speed, stable quality, and characteristics such as flocculation effect and filtration aid effect.
It is widely applicable for decolorization, impurity removal, and refining of products in food, medicine, monosodium glutamate, chemical industries, etc. It can also be used for water purification treatment.

It is typically made from various plant fragments (such as wood chips, coconut shells, and bagasse) or appropriate coal or charcoal as raw materials, processed through special treatments. The interior of activated carbon contains numerous extremely fine pores. The diameter of these pores is very small, resulting in a large total surface area and strong adsorption capacity.

Depending on the raw materials and manufacturing methods, there are many varieties of activated carbon, each suitable for different applications.
The micropores of powdered activated carbon can adsorb low molecular weight gases and small molecules in solutions, but molecules with higher molecular weights cannot enter the micropores; mesopores provide pathways into the micropores and can themselves adsorb substances with higher molecular weights; macropores serve both as pathways and adsorption sites. If activated carbon is used to adsorb small molecules, such as certain gases (toxic gases) and low molecular weight organic substances, products with more micropores can be used. However, if larger molecules need to be adsorbed, products with more mesopores should be selected.
The pore structure of activated carbon depends on the production raw materials and their composition, manufacturing methods, and conditions. The main forms of powdered activated carbon products are powder and granular. Powdered activated carbon is very fine powder, with the majority passing through a 200-mesh sieve and most passing through a 325-mesh sieve. The particle size ranges from 1 to 150 μm (average about 40 μm). Generally, the finer the carbon powder, the faster its adsorption rate for impurities. Therefore, activated carbon products are often highly crushed and screened to obtain fine powder.
