Chemical properties: Colorless liquid.

Melting point -52.5°C (-49.8°C), boiling point 106.0-106.1°C, relative density 0.8102 (25°C), refractive index 1.3952-1.3960 (20°C), flash point 23°C.

Soluble in ethanol and acetone, slightly soluble in water (solubility at 15°C is 2.44%).

Vapor is volatile with a minty odor.

Uses: This product is used as a solvent and extractant. It can also be used in organic synthesis.

Used in the production of pesticide fungicides such as diclobutrazol, triadimefon, triadimenol, bitertanol, diniconazole, and uniconazole; as well as plant growth regulators like paclobutrazol, uniconazole, inabenfide, flurprimidol, and mepiquat chloride. Also used in the production of herbicides and pharmaceutical products.

Mainly used in the production of triazole pesticides, such as triadimefon, paclobutrazol, uniconazole, and metribuzin. Uses: Solvent. Extractant.

Organic synthesis production methods:

1. Acetone method: Acetone is first reduced to pinacol, then dehydrated and rearranged in an acidic medium.

2. Isoamyl alcohol method: Isoamyl alcohol is dehydrated at high temperature to form isoamylene, which reacts with formaldehyde in the presence of inorganic acid.

3. Tert-amyl alcohol method: Tert-amyl alcohol is condensed with formaldehyde in hydrochloric acid and undergoes isomerization rearrangement.

Additionally, pinacolone can also be obtained by treating 4,4,5-trimethyl-1,3-dioxane with dilute inorganic acid or strong organic acid under boiling conditions.
