The pH range of TAPS is 7.7-9.1, and the maximum bufferable pH range is 7.4-9.4. It exhibits good hydrophilicity and is highly soluble in water. Its aqueous solution shows weak acidity, and can be adjusted to neutral or weakly alkaline by adding a small amount of NAOH. Due to its ability to stabilize pH values, TAPS is often used in biochemical experimental projects and clinical diagnostic fields.
