Oil Skimmer

I. Purpose:
This oil skimmer, designed by the Ma'anshan Iron and Steel Design and Research Institute of the Ministry of Metallurgy, is used in enterprises such as steel mills for rolling and continuous casting, petroleum refining, chemical industries, certain machining operations, and automotive repair. These industries generate large volumes of oily wastewater that require oil treatment before the water can be recycled or discharged. To prevent oil pollution and purify water quality, this high-efficiency oil removal device can be employed.
II. Principle:
The device consists of two main parts: the host unit and the control box. The host unit includes a float, an intake cylinder, a separation cylinder, a propeller, and an oil level controller. The control box houses the electrical control system and the oil pump.
During operation, the host unit is placed in a water body containing floating oil. The main body floats on the water surface due to the buoyancy of the float. By adjusting the relative height between the float and the separation cylinder, the separation cylinder is kept balanced and submerged in the water. After connecting to the power supply and setting the propeller to its optimal speed, the entire unit is ready for operation.
The skimmer operates on the principle of gravity separation. The propeller forces the floating oil on the water surface, along with water, into the separation cylinder through the intake cylinder. As the water exits the intake cylinder, the cross-sectional area suddenly expands, reducing the flow velocity. Due to the difference in specific gravity, the oil rises and accumulates at the top of the separation cylinder. When the accumulated oil reaches a certain thickness, the oil pump starts operating, while the propeller continues to push the floating oil into the separation cylinder. This process repeats until the floating oil on the water surface is largely removed.
