Primary packaging for medical waste, excluding hazardous waste, must not leak, rupture, or perforate during normal use, and should be of appropriate size and shape for easy handling. During transportation, medical waste bags must be securely sealed and placed in transfer containers to prevent bag breakage, leakage, and environmental contamination. Replacing traditional ordinary plastic bags, the use of standardized medical waste bags is mandated by national regulations.
