I. Zinc-Rich Primer

Zinc-rich primer is an anti-corrosive primer typically used for the corrosion protection of metal structures such as steel, aluminum, steel plates, and cast iron exposed to the atmosphere. Its main features include a bright color, fine texture, excellent sealing and anti-rust properties, effective prevention of steel surface oxidation, good corrosion resistance, and a long service life. Zinc-rich primer is mostly available in colors like reddish-brown and mud gray, with a high zinc content. It forms a stable, insoluble hard zinc salt compound protective layer on the steel surface, which can enhance the surface hardness and wear resistance of the steel, thereby extending the service life of the metal structure.

II. Epoxy Zinc-Rich Primer

Unlike zinc-rich primer, epoxy zinc-rich primer uses epoxy resin as the main resin, also has a high zinc content, and contains other additives. Compared to zinc-rich primer, it offers better wear resistance, weather resistance, and corrosion resistance. Additionally, the colors of epoxy zinc-rich primer differ from those of zinc-rich primer, primarily including blue-gray, titanium white, and yellow. It is more suitable for metal structures in harsh environments such as marine, oil and gas, acid and alkali, and high salinity conditions, providing superior anti-corrosion effects.

III. Differences Between the Two

Although both are rich in zinc, the epoxy resin used in epoxy zinc-rich primer provides longer-lasting corrosion protection, even resisting corrosion in harsh acidic and alkaline environments. In contrast, traditional zinc-rich primer, while a classic anti-corrosion product, has a relatively shorter service life and is less suitable for corrosion protection in harsh environments.
